Sonia Falcone
It is impossible to separate the life and the Works of this extraordinary
woman who has been growing as a person and an artist with a purpose
to serve others. Her name is Sonia Falcone. The walls of this gallery
project her ideas, swirling within and around her, individual and
collective, encompassing the beauty and the concept of the aes
thetic, of history and he cohesion of human beings towards an open
present and better, positive future. Falcone was born in Santa Cruz and
in the spirit of a true Bolivian, never lost her national identity. She comes
from a distant land. This is plainly visible in the monumental, multi
-colored works where light breaks into rainbow merge with the dawn,
where lamas and fish roam wild and where the art of war awaits the sun
of justice to appear witnessing the drops of blood as they metamorphose
into art and poetry.
Christina Oiticica
are going to be Dublin Biennial 2014 guest The artist tries to portray in her work,in a simple and direct way, the world, the present moment, and the society in which we live. That was how my first exhibition emerged, work based on the visual impressions of my pilgrimage along the Path to Santiago de Compostela, in July/August 1990. In mounting the show, at Casa de España, in Rio, I tried to arrange the room so that visitors not only observed the themes of the paintings, but might experience a symbolic journey along the Holy Way. - See more at: http://www.christinaoiticica.com.br/en/christina-oiticica-about-the-artist/#sthash.MG4YaiN2.dpuf
Deva Wolfram
I grew up in Town, nearby Frankfurt a/M, Germany, studied Ethnologie in
Madrid, Bonn, Mecixo-City, then Art in Cologne, and some years later the
basics of botany in Florence. The intense look at the ground under my
feet was due to the Tschernobyl Nuclear Desaster in 1986. All of a sudden
I realized what we were about to loose. I wanted to get acquainted with
the small beings I walk on and I am allergic to: the strange thing called
nature. When I slowly learned to handle botanical Literature and herbals,
I found out that the low wild plants are much less described than the
beautiful flowers, kitchen herbs, bushes and trees. I ate myself through
piles of knowlegde and problems, krawled on knees and invented
methods of research that fitted with my visive and artistic mind. In the
meantime I combine my skills to make it easy for others to get
fascinated

GRAHAM HAY
My ceramic paperclay work is an attempt to illustrate this on-going interest in the organisation of the arts and crafts, and society. I am inspired by architecture and local plants (see 6 February 2008 entry in my blog), while trying to suggest the cycles, rigidities and dynamic nature of our society, and myself. My compressed paper sculptures are a by-product of office work, research, everyday correspondence and junk mail. Since 1994 it has been a way to create silence in a world of information overload. Despite the promise of the "paperless office" we still keep paper to hand and it can become a symbol of emotional attachment and a link with loved ones. Read more. http://www.grahamhay.com.au/
MEADHBH O'CONNOR
Her work is typified by an interest in and concern for environmental issues. By undertaking projects that reference natural phenomena as well as more topical environmental concerns, Méadhbh’s work aims to draw attention to our place in a wider natural system that is both powerful and fragile. Her work is frequently large-scale and technically ambitious, often employing unconventional materials in her installations; and she is progressively following a path towards working with scientists and experts in other fields.

Sonia Falcone’s installation Campo de Color is certain to be one of the main attractions at this year’s show. Featured at the Latin American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale Campo de Color proved to be a ‘sensational’ attraction. The work, which comprises 300 clay plates piled high with spices and pigments, spreads out like a vast landscape of sensation. A visual feast provoking synesthetic perception, Campo de Color evokes time, place, memory, ‘the ephemeral nature of sensory pleasure and ultimately the fleeting nature of life itself.’ (The Art Newspaper)
Gavin Turk is a British born, International artist best known for ‘re-using’ iconic art historical imagery, painted bronze and rubbish within his own work to make contemporary social and environmental comment. The Biennial will feature his works Trash and Colourful Trash.
Other highlights at the exhibition include: Brazilian artist Christina Oiticica who will install a site-specific work ‘Seeds for Dublin’ at the Biennial along with an un-earthed canvas from the Amazon Rain Forest. Oiticica, who is married to the author Paolo Coelho, is known for her 'non-concretist' Land-Eco technique of combining paintings with the earth and the elements. Using the earth as foundation matter, Oiticica 'buries' her work in the earth for up to a year – the paintings, when unearthed, reveal the indelible marks contributed by nature to her works. She has buried her canvases in the Amazon, the Sacred Valley of Ganespurs in India, and along the route to Santiago de Compostela.
German artist Karla Sachse will present Baskets of Experience for Dublin. Sachse weaves baskets and organic shapes out of newspapers. Her objects are interwoven with the local daily news stories, each piece relates to the place where it is woven. Passers-by are invited to write their stories and these tales are integrated in the final pieces, their handwritten contribution visible but illegible. For the Dublin Biennial 2014 Karla will sit for the week weaving little bowls from current Irish newspapers and the handwritten notes of visitors to the Dublin Biennial.
German Botanist and artist Deva Wolfram will prepare her Wild Plant Buffet for the Biennial’s Solstice party on June 21 st. Wolfram’s botanical research focuses on the City, where she sees an increase of unusually rich wild flora. Due to climatic changes, contamination and industrial farming in the countryside, cities now offer a refuge to many short-lived plants that then propagate abundantly. The result of Wolfram's intensive research is a wild visual and edible feast. She has prepared her acclaimed Wild Plant Buffet throughout Europe, in Bonn, Düsseldorf, Florence and Rome.
As part of her preparation for the Dublin Biennial Wild Plant Buffet, Ms. Wolfram will conduct workshops and forage Dublin for native wildlife plants. She will be joined by Niall O’Sullivan, Head Chef at Isobel’s Restaurant and Founder of Nádúr Collective, Niall will present ‘a taste’ from the wild side.
